The main piece of technology in M3GAN is the robot/android M3GAN herself. In the movie she has been created with an ability to learn and take in information which is similar to how AIs need to be trained nowadays, however her learning goes beyond AIs nowadays because she never stops learning and she can recode herself. M3GAN is ahead of the time for when M3GAN came out. The technology that allows M3GAN to learn is currently in the works and is called artificial general intelligence. In the movie M3GAN is also able to take Cady’s full attention which is similar to how AI’s at time of release are capable of creating algorithms on social media that will keep us fully captivated and distracted from time passing by. In the movie they also have a scene where M3GAN is dancing and she also talks in the movie similar to the nursing robot that was created called the IPal. The IPal is able to interact and take care of and entertain children just like how M3GAN is able to take care of Cady. Another Robot was created in 2017 that has been granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia named Sophia. Sophia is special because she is deemed as the most similar looking robot to humans. Boston Dynamics also created a robot that is able to do parkour after about 5 years. So if you are able to combine all of the different aspects of these projects you could end up with something very similar to M3GAN.
A miniscule piece of technology in the movie was the original product that Gemma’s company made which was the Perpetual Petz. The Perpetual Petz looks similar to a Furby although we could not find anything that connected the design to what Furby’s design was , the name is very similar to the knockoff design in the movie called furzeez. We also found similarities between a 2010 game Talking Tom which has some of the same activities like going to the bathroom and feeding the character as well as talking to them.
Another computing technology in the movie is Elsie. Elsie is able to control the house's lights, temperature, set reminders and has control over the security systems. In the real world the most similar technology is an Alexa which can be used and paired with your phone. There are also multiple different smart home technologies that allow you to control the temperature or lights of your house. Elsie is a smart home assistant that is mixed with the smart home technologies that allows for you to fully control the house.
